SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Preference is given to new work by visual artists that responds to the site, taking into consideration its context within the city and/or its architectural configuration. Only in exceptional cases will existing work be considered.

Before developing your proposal, consult the TSG Archive for all work that has been exhibited since 1981. We are looking for new work that is different conceptually and physically from previous exhibitions.

The Art Advisory Board meets three times a year, with receipt of materials due on January 15th, May 15th, and September 15th. You will receive written notification of the results approximately 4 weeks after the deadline. There is no limit to the number of times an artist may submit a new proposal.

Submission details:

Provide:

• Drawings showing the components of the work proposed and show location on site; include dimensions and materials; include below grade foundation drawings.
• One-page written statement of the theme
• Budget showing materials, installation/removal, transportation, and other critical costs
• Annotated images sent as photographs or colour copies; jpegs or pdfs on a CD or DVD. Identify work on a separate sheet, indicating materials, dimensions, year and description.
• c.v.

Not acceptable:

• Maquettes, although you may submit two-dimensional images if you wish to build one
• VHS or slides

Mail or deliver submissions by the due date.

Materials will not be returned unless accompanied by an appropriately sized stamped self-addressed envelope for Canadian submissions (or a self-addressed envelope for international submissions).

You will be notified by email approximately three weeks after the submission date.

A maximum of $20,000.00 Canadian is available for an exhibition featuring new work. From this amount, $2,500.00 is for artist fee and the balance must be for materials, transportation, installation and removal costs as well as brochure writer's fee. For existing work, only an exhibition fee plus installation, removal and transportation costs will be paid.

Artists from outside Canada will have to secure their own funding for travel, accommodations and per diem expenses. In addition, if round trip transportation of the work is excessive, then additional funds will also have to be secured by the artist.

All work must meet public safety requirements, be installed compliant with city codes and meet the following criteria:

· Must be secured with footings below grade
· Must be fabricated from durable materials able to withstand climate changes subject only to normal weathering for duration of exhibition
· Must require no on-going maintenance
· Must have no sharp edges or parts that can be shattered or broken
· Electrical wiring and machinery must meet standard electrical codes and be buried below grade or encased
· Nothing may be installed on or over the walkway. Artwork must be sited only in the area east of the walkway.
· Only the waterfall section of the east wall may have attachments (not the east façade with the windows or any part of the west façade)
· Artwork must be visible during daylight hours
· Audioworks must not be audible to adjacent restaurant and residential units
· Submissions that include socially unacceptable elements (text and/or images) will not be considered
· Built forms that encourage long term lounging/sleeping will not be considered
